Get Ready! Get Set! Go! to the Spring Plant Sales

If you are looking for some plants to buff up your garden, here are three opportunities to shop at local community plant sales.

The Down to Earth Garden Club , a member of LCGC, will hold their annual fundraiser on Saturday, May 13, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., at a new location, Centenary United Methodist Church, 2800 Tates Creek Road, Lexington, KY.  Please see their website, www.downtoearthky.com, for more information.

Gardenside Green Thumb Garden Club, also a member of LCGC, is holding a plant sale on Derby Day, May 6. See the flyer below:

Spring 2023 Upcoming Events

Reforest the Bluegrass: Help the city of Lexington plant trees at Hisle Farm Park, 3551 Briar Hill Road, on Saturday, April 15, from 9a.m.-1p.m.    Participants receive a free lunch and a tee shirt. On Saturday, April 22, from 10 a.m.-1p.m., Reforest at Home is giving away free bareroot tree seedlings, up to 5 per Fayette County household, at Jacobson, Castlewood, and Waverly Parks. Opening Day at Waveland State Historic Site:  Waveland State Historic Site has their official opening on April 1, 2023. Please see their Facebook page at facebook.com/WavelandSHS

Local Garden Club Tours: Besides the Lexington Council Garden Club Open Gates to the Bluegrass Tour on June 24-25, a tour of Botherum in Lexington, and garden tours in Danville and Frankfort will be held this spring. Please see the Garden Club of Kentucky’s website, gcky.org for more information.

Outgoing President Liz Pattengill Recognized

Liz Pattengill, outgoing President of LCGC, was recognized by the club membership with a Life-time Membership to the Garden Club of Kentucky.

Liz led the club through the difficult years of the pandemic, keeping us on track and buoying  our spirits. And while she is passing the presidential mantle to new president Susan Craddock, Liz is a vital member still involved with many of our projects, such as the upcoming Garden Tour in June 2023. Liz has long been active in all of the phases of LCGC, and we truly can not thank her enough. Cheers to Liz!!

WELCOME Lexington Women’s Recognition Garden

The Lexington Women’s Recognition Garden Club joined LCGC in 2022. We are excited to have this group on board and to recognize their contributions to Fayette County.

Founding members established the Lexington Women’s Recognition Garden in 2010, which is located in Wellington Park, 565 Wellington Way.  The garden is a place to honor the women of Lexington and their vital but often overlooked contributions to the fabric of life in Lexington, Kentucky.

The space is planted with native plants and shrubs, and an herb garden. Please see their wonderful Facebook page at facebook.com/lexingtonwomensgarden for more information.

In addition the the plantings, the garden paths are lined with engraved bricks, dedicated to honor or memory of women of Fayette County.  If you would like to purchase an engraved brick for a special woman in your life, please click on the flyer link below. Proceeds go toward maintenance of the Recognition Garden.
