A couple of sites of interest for your gardening pleasure:
The Mt. Cuba Center in Hockessin, DE, has information on native plant variety trials on their website https://mtcubacenter.org
pallensmith.com/2017/06/29/kitchen-garden-getting-started
Also, the Missouri Botanical Garden is offering virtual tours of their gardens which can be accessed from their Facebook page.
It is with regret that the Lexington Council Garden Clubs has decided to cancel the Lexington in Bloom (LIB) garden contest for 2020 due to Covid-19 social distancing recommendations.
We want all our gardening friends to stay safe and healthy throughout the following months, and want to do our part to ensure that LIB participants and judges are not exposed to Covid-19 due to LIB obligations. But no worries, LIB will be back in the coming years to help promote city beautification through recognition of our city’s gardening community!
And in the spirit of community, LCGC urges you to get out there and garden! Its good for the soul, its good for our health, and it is a way we can share with each other while still maintaining distance. Put out those flowers where people can see them as they drive by. Plant extra veggies to donate to food banks. Help maintain neighborhood parks and entryways.
Let’s be responsible, kind, generous, and patient. Lexington and Kentucky are doing a commendable job dealing with the Covid-19 outbreak. We can use the language of gardening to thank our leadership and front-line workers, as well as each other, for staying the course.
Also, just to slake the thirst for visiting gardens currently unavailable to us, I will periodically post a link to gardens around the country and world for anyone who wants to take a virtual tour. Today’s link is for Cheekwood Estate and Gardens in Nashville, TN. www.cheekwood.org Or send links of interest to dtgecwebmaster@gmail.com., and I will post them.
Here’s a link for Google Earth’s virtual tours of national parks,: https://earth.app.goo.gl/7u542n
Also, I will occasionally post garden or other horticulture related pictures. If there is anything you’d like to show off, send it to the above email address.
